The Mount Isa-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew yesterday located and rescued four adults after their vehicle became bogged on a remote dirt road west of Mount Isa.
The LifeFlight helicopter was tasked by Retrieval Services Queensland (RSQ) and the Queensland Police Service (QPS) at 1.50pm after family raised the alarm when the group failed to arrive at their destination.
The LifeFlight rescue crew spotted a female walking alone along a dirt road just over one hour into the search.
The chopper landed on the dirt road and after the crew spoke with the woman they realised she was one of the group they were searching for.
The rescue crew and the woman continued the search and found the vehicle about one kilometre away but nobody was with the car.
A few minutes later the LifeFlight crew found two adults about 300 metres from the abandoned car sheltering under trees in temperatures above 40 degrees.
The critical care Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) flight paramedic treated all three patients for dehydration.
The aeromedical crew were then notified the fourth adult had walked 30 kilometres to a homestead.
The two female patients, both in their 40s, were airlifted to a health clinic for observation just over the border into the Northern Territory.
The two male patients, both in their 40s, were airlifted to Mount Isa Hospital for further treatment.
