LifeFlight winches hiker to safety

The Toowoomba-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew yesterday rescue-winched a woman to safety off a hiking trail in the Somerset region after she became unwell.

The rescue helicopter was tasked at 3.52pm by Retrieval Services Queensland to Flinders Peak.

The LifeFlight rescue crew officer was winched down to retrieve the patient.

She was airlifted to a nearby campground and treated by the critical care LifeFlight doctor, Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) flight paramedic and local paramedics.

The patient, aged in her 20s, was flown to Archerfield Airport before being transported by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital.
