From rigorous pre-deployment training specific to the aeromedical retrieval environment to regular ongoing education, we ensure our teams are always at the forefront of medical expertise.
Twice a year, LifeFlight Medical Services welcomes new Retrieval Registrars, our critical care doctors, for a unique 6 to 12-month medical experience. Registrars undergo comprehensive training, including Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET), preparing them for the challenges of aeromedical retrieval in diverse and demanding environments.
With our state-of-the-art facilities, high-fidelity simulators and 45 years of specialised expertise, we provide tailored training solutions for pilots, aircrew, doctors, and paramedics.
Our scenarios are meticulously designed to be hyper-realistic and highly effective, giving you practical experience and skills that seamlessly apply to real-world situations.

Our doctors receive intensive scenario training to handle critical emergencies during flights. This training helps them apply hospital skills effectively in the fast-paced prehospital environment.

We provide critical care doctors across all LifeFlight services and to all retrieval services in Queensland. This means consistent, high level medical care for all communities, no matter where they are.
We’re available 24/7, 365 days of the year. This means that our teams are ready to mobilise at a moment’s notice – ensuring we can provide immediate, high-quality care whenever and wherever it is needed.
Whether it’s for emergency rescues, natural disasters, patient transfers between hospitals, international medical evacuations or aerial protection and surveillance, our team are fully equipped to handle a wide range of critical situations.
Every mission is a new learning opportunity, bringing unique challenges that inspire our medical teams to constantly sharpen their skills and expand their knowledge. With more than 7,000 missions per year across Australia’s toughest landscapes, we offer real-time training experiences that continuously push the boundaries of aeromedical care.
Led by our Clinical Governance Committee, comprised of experienced practitioners and managers, we uphold rigorous standards to continuously improve the quality of our care and minimise risks.
We believe in learning from every experience and insights gained in the field are promptly integrated into our training, enhancing our ability to provide effective and compassionate care. Regular audits and assessments further ensure that we meet and exceed expectations in practice, patient safety and quality management.
Our critical care doctors mark their calendars for our Annual Clinical Governance Day. It’s a day dedicated to strengthening our practices and ensuring we deliver the best possible outcomes for every patient we serve.
