LifeFlight winches two in separate bulk carrier rescues

The LifeFlight Sunshine Coast-based aeromedical crew has undertaken double missions to airlift injured men from bulk carriers over the past three days.

LifeFlight was tasked by Retrieval Services Queensland at 2pm to a bulk carrier 13 nautical miles off Mooloolaba.

The LifeFlight rescue crewman and QAS critical care flight paramedic were winched down to the ship and assessed a man in his 40s for a significant hand injury.

He was winched into the helicopter and flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

It followed the winch of a man on Wednesday from a bulk carrier after he fell and hit his head.

The helicopter was tasked at 8.03am to the ship 10 nautical miles off Point Arkwright.

The patient was treated by the critical care LifeFlight doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) flight paramedic before being winched into the aircraft.

A man in his 50s was flown to the Sunshine Coast LifeFlight base and road-transported by QAS to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
