Woman trapped by floodwaters airlifted after snakebite

The Bundaberg-based LifeFlight crew today airlifted a woman after she was bitten by a snake that her cat brought into the house.

The crew was tasked by Retrieval Services Queensland at 12.50pm and landed at a nearby closed school oval north of Bundaberg.

The woman was inaccessible to local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) due to flooded roads.

But an off-duty Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedic was alerted and was able to immobilise and bandage the woman’s leg and kept her calm.

She was driven to meet the LifeFlight helicopter and a LifeFlight critical care doctor and QAS flight paramedic gave her pain relief.

The woman in her 70s was flown to the Bundaberg Airport before being road-transported to Bundaberg Hospital in a stable condition.

The Bundaberg-based LifeFlight helicopter and crew service the Wide Bay-Burnett region and beyond.
