Seriously injured woman airlifted after head-on collision

Brisbane’s RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has airlifted a woman to hospital after she was involved in a head-on collision on the Fraser Coast overnight.

It’s believed the woman, who is aged in her 40s, was the driver of a car travelling northbound on the Bruce Highway when the two-vehicle crash occurred.

The Brisbane-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crew, along with the Sunshine Coast rescue chopper, were called to the scene around 9pm.

Both chopper pilots were able to land their aircraft on a stretch of highway, which had been closed by local Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers.

The aeromedical crews, alongside Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics, treated the patient for multiple injuries.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) personnel were also on scene.

The woman was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious condition.
