RACQ LifeFlight Rescue airlifts injured paraglider after falling 10 metres

The Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has airlifted a man to hospital, after he was injured in a paragliding incident this afternoon.

The rescue chopper was called to a coastal area, in the Gympie region, just after 3:15pm (Saturday 3rd Feb).

The LifeFlight rescue pilot was able to safely land on sand close to the crash scene.

It is believed the paraglider fell about 10 metres before hitting the sand then rolling to the bottom of the dune.

Passersbys assisted the paraglider and called emergency services.

An RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and QAS Flight Paramedic worked to treat the patient for spinal injuries.

The man in his 20s was then airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.
