Toowoomba’s RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew winched a woman, from a national park, after she was injured while rock climbing yesterday (Saturday 14 March).
The rescue chopper was called to the scene, north east of Toowoomba, just after midday.
It’s believed the woman was climbing up a steep surface, when a rock she had grabbed for support broke away, causing her to fall.
She was reportedly then hit by the large, broken boulder.
Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) personnel were in attendance, when the chopper arrived.
Due to the location, it was decided the woman could not be walked out and would need to be winched.
RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Air Crew Officer and Winch Operator, Eddie Balarezo, said he lowered a QAS Flight Paramedic down to the patient.
“We winched the flight paramedic and a stretcher to the ground, so the young woman could be treated for suspected head injuries,” Mr Balarezo said.
She was safely secured into the stretcher, before being hoisted up to the helicopter, accompanied by the flight paramedic.
The woman was flown to Toowoomba Hospital, in a stable condition.
