Two RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopters have airlifted two patients after a head-on crash, north of Gympie this afternoon.
The Brisbane and Sunshine Coast-based aircraft were tasked just before 2pm and landed on a highway, which had been closed to traffic.
The aeromedical crews worked with Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics at the scene, to treat a man aged in his 40s and a woman aged in her 20s.
The Sunshine Coast team airlifted the man, who suffered abdominal injuries, to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
He was in a serious but stable condition.
The Brisbane-based helicopter then flew the woman to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, in a stable condition, with multiple injuries.
