The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has been involved in a major search for a man, who was found standing on top of a navigation beacon, after his boat ran aground.
His vessel was discovered at the northern tip of Bribie Island, around 4pm, with no one on board, sparking a multi-agency search and rescue operation.
The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was tasked by Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) around 6.15pm and worked with Queensland Police Service (QPS), Coast Guard and Surf Life Saving Queensland.
It’s understood occupants of a ship, travelling in a nearby shipping channel spotted a man standing at the top of a navigation beacon.
The rescue helicopter flew to the beacon and hovered over the man for a short time, keeping a light on him, while briefly waiting for Coast Guard and QPS boats to arrive.
The man was taken to shore on board one of the boats.
The rescue chopper was stood down and returned to base, as it was determined he did not require airlifting.
