Multiple helicopters called to serious crash

The Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter and the LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter were tasked to a serious motor vehicle incident in the Toowoomba region overnight.

LifeFlight crews received the first call just after 1am on Friday to respond to reports a car, with four people inside, had crashed into a tree.

The pilots of both LifeFlight aircraft were able to land safely at a nearby oval, along with the Queensland Government (QGAir) rescue helicopter.

Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) personnel transported a teenage survivor with leg injuries to the oval.

Medical teams from both choppers treated the 17 year old patient, who was then airlifted by the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

The LifeFlight SGAS helicopter performed the mission, as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to assisting in providing the south west region and beyond, with community aeromedical coverage, by donating 150 flying hours each year.
