Mount Isa rescue chopper airlifts man bitten by snake

The Mount Isa-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has airlifted a man to hospital, after he was bitten by a snake outside a North West pub overnight.

It’s believed the man, aged in his 60s, had been at a hotel in the Cloncurry region on Friday night when he went outside, where the snake slithered out and bit him on the foot.

Due to the unfavorable weather conditions in the region during the night, emergency services were unable to reach the man until daybreak.

He reportedly suffered a suspected dry snake bite which is a bite from a possibly venomous reptile, but no venom is released.

The man was described as being in good spirits.

The rescue chopper was tasked just after 5.30am (Sat, 14 January) and landed on a nearby road.

The Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic was able render initial medical treatment and the patient was then flown to Mount Isa Hospital in a stable condition.
