Motorist airlifted after crashing 15 metres down embankment

The Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has flown a man to hospital, after his car left the road and plunged approximately 15 metres down an embankment, in the Lockyer Valley, overnight.

It’s believed the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, had been travelling east, when the crash occurred.

The rescue chopper was called into action just after 9:30pm (Saturday, 3rd of June).

The chopper pilot landed the aircraft on an oval near the scene of the incident.

Climbing down to the crash site via a safety line set up by Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES), the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic joined QAS officers in treating the patient on scene.

He was then carefully brought up the embankment and transferred to the waiting helicopter.

The motorist, who is aged in his 20s, was flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.
