The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has airlifted a man to hospital, after a large tree fell and crushed his car, while he was driving down a road in a mountain area.
The rescue helicopter flew to the South Burnett region just before 11.30am (Sunday 9th Jan), responding to reports a driver was pinned inside his car, with the tree still on top of it.
The rescue chopper was able to land a few hundred metres away, and the aeromedical crew was driven to the scene.
The male driver, was released from the vehicle, after almost two hours.
The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic, worked alongside local QAS paramedics in treating him for multiple traumatic injuries.
He was driven a short distance to the rescue chopper by QAS and then was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious condition.
His wife, who was a passenger in the car, suffered only minor injuries and also was airlifted to the RBWH in a stable condition.
