LifeFlight winches man to safety from mountain

The Sunshine Coast-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew today winched a man from Mt Coolum to hospital in the first of back-to-back missions.

The LifeFlight helicopter was tasked by Retrieval Services Queensland at 11.25am to a walking track on the mountain.

Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics treated the patient on scene for a lower leg injury.

In a multi-agency response, Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers and Queensland Fire Department (QFD) firefighters also attended the incident.

The LifeFlight rescue crew officer along with the critical care QAS flight paramedic were winched down to the patient who was winched back into the helicopter.

The patient, in his 20s, was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.

The helicopter was then tasked at 1.40pm to a rural area in the Gympie region after a motorcycle rider came off his bike during a motocross event.

The critical care LifeFlight doctor and QAS flight paramedic worked with local QAS paramedics to treat the patient for chest and back injuries.

The man, in his 50s, was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
