LifeFlight winches man from bulk carrier off Gladstone coast

The Bundaberg-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew today winched a man from a bulk carrier after a medical incident.

The LifeFlight helicopter was tasked at 10.50am by Retrieval Services Queensland to a ship 10 nautical miles off the coast of Gladstone.

The helicopter winched the rescue crew officer and critical care Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) flight paramedic down to the ship.

After the patient was assessed, all three were winched back into the helicopter.

The helicopter airlifted the patient to the LifeFlight Bundaberg base where they were met by QAS paramedics.

The patient, aged in his 60s, was road transported by QAS to Bundaberg Hospital for further treatment.

The Bundaberg-based LifeFlight helicopter and crew service the Wide Bay-Burnett region and beyond.
