The Toowoomba-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter crew winched a man to safety after he fell around two metres while hiking in the Somerset Region, yesterday (Friday 26 January).
It’s believed the hiker was climbing through a gorge when he lost his footing and fell onto rocks.
The rescue chopper crew was called into action shortly before 2pm, where the pilot was able to zero in on the man’s location.
The man, aged in his thirties, was treated for his injuries, before being secured into the stretcher and hoisted up into the chopper.
He was flown to Archerfield Airport, where he was then met by Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics who transported him via road to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Tasked by Queensland Health, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter and crew performed this mission as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to providing community aeromedical coverage.
In a separate Australia Day rescue, the Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crew airlifted a man from the Moreton Bay Region.
The man, aged in his sixties, was injured in a surfing accident and was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition.
