LifeFlight locates sinking vessel off Gold Coast

The Brisbane-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew today located a vessel after it sent a distress beacon 50km off the Gold Coast.

The LifeFlight helicopter was tasked by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and Retrieval Services Queensland (RSQ) at 4.38pm.

The vessel was taking on water, however by the time the LifeFlight helicopter arrived overhead with fading light, the crew advised they had managed to stem the flow.

The LifeFlight helicopter monitored the vessel, which contained five people, while waiting for the Tweed Heads Water Police to arrive.

The vessel was towed to Southport by the water police with all occupants uninjured.
