LifeFlight locate missing jet skier in complex mission

The LifeFlight Bundaberg-based aeromedical crew last night located a missing jet skier who was stranded after an incident involving two broken down jet skis.

The chopper was tasked to the Fraser Coast region at 7.13pm as part of a complex multi-agency search and rescue.

The man’s jet ski broke down near K’gari and he caught a barge back to the mainland to ride another jet ski out to retrieve it.

It’s believed the second jet ski broke down and the man’s family contacted police after he hadn’t arrived home after nightfall.

The LifeFlight team located both jet skis before finding the man on a shoreline around 9pm and about 1km away from the second jet ski, trying to make his way back on foot.

The aeromedical crew alerted Marine Rescue Queensland (MRQ) Hervey Bay of the man’s location and remained overhead with spotlights until they arrived.

The man was uninjured and taken by MRQ to a local boat ramp along with the jet skis.

The Bundaberg-based LifeFlight helicopter and crew service the Wide Bay-Burnett region and beyond.
