Injured driver airlifted after 4WD rollover

The Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has airlifted a woman to hospital after the 4WD she was driving crashed in the Southern Downs region.

The rescue chopper was called to the scene just before 3pm today (Sunday 28th Aug).

The pilot landed the aircraft on the highway, which had been closed to traffic by Queensland Police Service (QPS).

It’s believed the 4WD ran off the road, rolling down a three metre embankment and trapping the female driver.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) personnel worked to free the woman from the wreckage of the car, which had landed on its side.

When the aeromedical team arrived, they joined local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics in treating the patient for head, back and abdominal injuries.

The woman, aged in her fifties, was flown to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.

The male passenger received minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
