Baby airlifted from K’gari with marine sting

The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has airlifted an infant from K’gari (Fraser Island) after she was stung by what was believed to be an Irukandji jellyfish.

The crew were tasked at around 3.30pm and landed on the beach on the western side of the island. It was tasked to the same location just two hours earlier for a similar incident.

The aeromedical team worked alongside local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics to treat the child.

She was flown to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition accompanied by a parent.

It’s the third time in just two days that the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has airlifted a patient from K’gari with a marine sting after a man was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital earlier today, and a girl was flown to Hervey Bay Hospital yesterday by the Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew.
