The Bundaberg-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew was called out today to assist in a multi-agency search for a damaged yacht in the Wide Bay-Burnett region.
The helicopter conducted a search for the vessel and located it around 30kms off the coast.
The vessel had sustained damage when a solar panel bracket broke off and punched a hole in the hull, with the yacht losing its tender (small inflatable boat) in the incident.
The boat took on water and the vessel’s pumps were turned on to keep it afloat.
The LifeFlight crew communicated with the yachties and monitored from overhead while waiting for the Queensland Water Police (QWP) to arrive.
QWP shadowed the vessel until the Volunteer Coast Guard arrived and towed the vessel to safety.
No patient transportation was required.
