The Bundaberg-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew today airlifted a man to hospital after he was bitten by a shark while snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef.
The LifeFlight helicopter was tasked by Retrieval Services Queensland at 8.27 am to the scene just off Lady Elliot Island.
It’s believed the man in his 50s was snorkeling on a shallow reef when he encountered the shark.
The critical care LifeFlight doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) flight paramedic treated the patient for puncture wounds to his hand and deep lacerations to his right arm.
He was flown to Bundaberg Hospital in a stable condition.
