Woman winched from cruise ship by LifeFlight

The Bundaberg-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew has winched a woman from a cruise ship after a medical incident.

The LifeFlight helicopter was yesterday tasked by Retrieval Services Queensland and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) at 8.50am to the ship’s location, 30 nautical miles north-east of Bundaberg.

The critical care LifeFlight doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) flight paramedic was winched down to the deck of the ship to treat the patient.

The woman, aged in her 70s, was winched into the helicopter via stretcher and flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a life-threatening condition.

The Bundaberg-based LifeFlight helicopter and crew service the Wide Bay-Burnett region and beyond.
