Motorcyclist airlifted after serious crash in outback Queensland

The Mount Isa-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has airlifted a motorcycle rider to hospital after a serious accident, in remote north west Queensland.

The crew received the call just after 11:20am (Friday 20th), as they were refuelling at Normanton after a previous mission.

The pilot was able to land the aircraft on the dirt road, close to the scene.

Other travellers had already stopped and rendered first aid, before the rescue chopper arrived.

It’s believed the male rider, aged in his seventies, had been riding with friends, when his bike lost control in loose gravel, throwing him over the handle bars.

The Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic treated the rider for fractured ribs and internal injuries.

The patient was then stabilised and airlifted to Mount Isa Airport in a serious but stable condition.

He was then transferred to Mount Isa Hospital.

The rescue helicopter flew more than 570 kilometres throughout the mission.
