LifeFlight winches hikers in back-to-back missions

The Toowoomba-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew today winched three hikers in separate airlifts from the Scenic Rim and Moreton Bay regions.

In the first mission, the LifeFlight helicopter was tasked by Retrieval Services Queensland at 1pm to Mount Barney in the Scenic Rim region after a male hiker in his late teens suffered leg injuries during a fall.

The helicopter winched down the rescue crew officer, who remained connected to the helicopter due to the precarious nature of the hikers’ position.

The patient, alongside another hiker, were winched back into the helicopter and taken to the base of the mountain.

The patient was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital by Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics.

The helicopter was then tasked to Northbrook Gorge in the Moreton Bay region after a female hiker fell and sustained leg injuries.

The LifeFlight crew lowered the rescue crew officer and he made his way through dense vegetation and traversed a creek to the patient who was being treated by QAS paramedics.

State Emergency Service (SES) personnel were also on scene.

The patient, in her 20s, was then winched into the helicopter and airlifted to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for further treatment.
