LifeFlight Canapes in the Cockpit fundraiser is a must attend

LifeFlight’s Canapes in the Cockpit fundraising event on September 12 will see attendees grooving to live music, snacking on delicious delicacies and bidding on exciting auction prizes to support the expansion of its free emergency trauma training workshops First Minutes Matter (FMM).

The over 18s cocktail event at the Lee Family and Australian Country Choice LifeFlight Centre Roma will have fantastic auction prizes up for grabs, including two nights’ accommodation at Sunset Beach House, a fishing charter in 1770, locally made children’s toy cattleyards, tickets to see Ed Sheeran live and more.

Guests will hear LifeFlight past patient Zach Nightingale’s inspirational story of recovery, after he lost his leg in a motorcycle accident in 2017.

Attendees will also be treated to the talented vocals of Australian Idol runner up Luke Dickens, with a live performance.

The event will be followed by a free community event on Saturday, where the community can check out the Roma Visitor Experience Centre and enjoy coffee and cookies, plus facepainting for the kids.

The whole family can join in on a free trauma training skill session and learn how to help a loved one during a medical emergency.

The Maranoa region is home to remote cattle stations and farming crops, where building community resilience is paramount.

FMM workshops teach life-saving skills to help in a medical emergency before help arrives.

This year, the Roma-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) have attended farming related incidents such as a man who became trapped in a silo, and a woman who was injured by a bull.

LifeFlight’s connection to the region goes beyond helicopter rescue missions. The Roma Visitor Experience Centre is the first of its kind in Queensland and is a family-friendly adventure that encourages attendees to immerse themselves in LifeFlight’s rich history, learn about rescue missions and take a peek into the Roma hangar through a viewing window.

Who knows, you may even see the helicopter take off on a mission.

Visitors can ‘fly’ an AW139 helicopter on the pilot simulator in a choose-your-own-adventure-style mission option and rescue a patient.

If you’d rather take on the adrenaline-packed role of a LifeFlight aircrew officer, you can grab a selfie in a real piece of rescue winching equipment in front of a greenscreen.

Background options include staples of the Maranoa region such as Carnarvon Gorge or in front of an iconic bottle tree.

LifeFlight south west regional advisory committee chair Kate Scott, encouraged the local community to get involved.

“There’s really something for everyone available at our upcoming events,” she said.

“You can get dressed up and sip cocktails and then enjoy the next morning with family and friends at the community fun day.

“A huge thank you to our presenting partner and sponsors for their generous support.”

LifeFlight would like to thank the following supporters and sponsors:

Presenting Partner: Wild Desert

Gold Sponsors: Mitchell Water, Sharpe Engineering, Denison Gas, Roma Explorers Inn and Roma Off Road & Mechanical.

Silver Sponsors: Enzed Surat Basin and ADZ Energy.

Bronze Sponsor: Black Toyota.
