Darling Downs Region

Founded by locals who wanted to make a difference

The establishment of our base in Toowoomba was made possible by a passionate group of local business owners, affectionately named the Darling Downs Dozen, who banded together to raise the necessary funds to launch the service in 2006.

What started as a weekend only operation, has now grown to a 24/7 aeromedical lifesaving service. Since then, LifeFlight’s presence across the Darling Downs has expanded exponentially, with our local helicopter crew now coming to the aid of hundreds of Queenslanders every year.

Our Toowoomba base is a hive of activity. Home to two AW139 helicopters and a dedicated team of aeromedical specialists who deliver the pinnacle of care to those who need it most.

Darling Downs Regional Advisory Committee

As a team of passionate and experienced community leaders, our Regional Advisory Committee in the Darling Downs help support and guide our mission.

Clive Berghofer AM

Clive Berghofer is one of LifeFlight’s biggest and most cherished supporters in the region. His remarkable generosity has helped fund our regional base, a new training helicopter, and the Archerfield maintenance facility. His support helps us provide the best care possible, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

First Minutes Matter

First Minutes Matter is a free safety education program delivered to various locations across Queensland. Utilising LifeFlight’s decades of aeromedical experience, our training equips you with practical skills for time-critical medical situations while professional help is on the way. First established in Darling Downs, our training is delivered in both in-person workshops and online across Queensland.

From our patients

“Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you for saving my life.”

– Past patient Cooper Prior., Yelarbon

11-year-old Cooper Prior’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact of our work. After a severe motorbike accident that left him with significant brain and internal injuries, Cooper’s recovery seemed uncertain. But thanks to the swift and skilled response from our LifeFlight rescue crew, he is now expected to make a full recovery.
