The Bundaberg-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew yesterday winched a teenager off a mountain in the North Burnett region after he fell 50 metres while hiking.
The LifeFlight helicopter was tasked by Retrieval Services Queensland at 11.55am in a multi-agency response, which included the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS).
It’s believed the male hiker had reached the summit of the mountain when he fell down rough terrain, smashing his mobile phone in the fall.
He was able call his mother using his AirPods and she was put in touch with a QPS senior constable who guided the helicopter to the patient.
The critical care LifeFlight doctor, QAS flight paramedic and rescue crew officer was winched down to the teenager.
The medical team treated him for head, chest, neck and pelvis injuries and he was stretcher-winched into the helicopter.
He was airlifted to Bundaberg Hospital in a stable condition.
The Bundaberg-based LifeFlight helicopter and crew service the Wide Bay-Burnett region and beyond.
