What We Do
First Minutes Matter
In a region where the nearest major hospital is more than 470 kilometers away, access to healthcare is crucial. From our base in Roma, LifeFlight provides medical specialists to families and communities across the South West when they need it most.
Our base at Roma is home to our LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter and crew. Since 2011, this service has been provided by LifeFlight on behalf of our Surat Basin Gas company partners who donate 150 flying hours each year to assure community aeromedical coverage.
Our connection with the local community has always been extraordinary and in 2023 a significant milestone was reached, with the official opening of the Lee Family and Australian Country Choice LifeFlight Centre. The $3.4 million facility was made possible by funding from the Australian Government, alongside money raised through local businesses, individual donors, philanthropic and community support.

Our South West RAC consists of a group of dedicated local leaders who are passionate about championing LifeFlight’s mission across the region.
Jacqui Rich fractured four ribs and badly ruptured her spleen after she crashed her quad bike while riding at her family’s cattle station. The mother-of-two’s life was touch and go on her flight to hospital, by the time she arrived she has been given six units of blood. 24 hours later, she was sitting up in her hospital bed with a shade of pink back in her cheeks. Jacqui’s story is one of thousands, and is a powerful reminder that without intervention, many would not have the same outcome.
