The sight of LifeFlight’s helicopter is familiar to many people across the region, serving as a beacon of hope since 1998. Through various name, colour and aircraft changes, our rescue helicopter crew has flown to the aid of thousands of people across the Wide Bay-Burnett in times of crisis.
From rescuing residents stranded on their roofs during catastrophic flood events to saving the lives of countless people injured in horrific motor vehicle accidents, our dedicated teams are always ready to respond.
2020 marked a significant milestone for our Wide Bay-Burnett operation as we joined forces with Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) to open a new , purpose-built facility at Bundaberg Airport. This state-of-the-art centre enabled us to expand our service to help more people in more places.
August 2022 saw our capability across the region bolstered further by welcoming our first critical care doctor to our Wide Bay-Burnett service. These highly skilled medical specialists are our on board our local helicopter seven days a week, but it remains our ambition to expand the doctor roster to 24/7 in the future.
As a team of passionate and experienced community leaders, our Regional Advisory Committee in the Wide Bay-Burnett help support and guide our mission.
Eli, a young boy from Bundaberg, is a shining example of the difference LifeFlight makes to families across Queensland. After a serious fall from a tree in his backyard, Eli lay motionless while his mother, Sarah-Jayne, feared the worst. Thanks to LifeFlight’s swift and expert response, Eli received the critical care he needed and is now back with his family.
Throughout the year there are many LifeFlight and community-led events.
