Paramedic winched in to help injured trail bike rider

The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew winched a Flight Paramedic into bushland, to treat a trail bike rider, who had suffered a serious leg fracture.

The rescue team was called to the national park, west of the Sunshine Coast, yesterday afternoon (Sat 11th Sept) at around 1pm.

The trail bike rider had reportedly been travelling at slow speed, up a steep incline when he stopped and his motorcycle became caught in a rut.

The bike then fell on him, breaking his lower leg.

The injured man’s friend rode out of the park to a house and was able to call for help.

When the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter arrived, the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic was winched down to the scene.

She assessed and treated the patient while teams from QAS and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services drove to their location.

The patient was taken in a 4WD ambulance and transferred into the waiting rescue chopper, which had landed in a clear area nearby.

The patient, who is aged in his forties, was in a stable condition when he was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
