RACQ LifeFlight Rescue joins search for missing hiker at Fraser Island

The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has joined a major search operation for a missing woman at Fraser Island.

It’s believed the woman, aged in her 70s, became lost while hiking yesterday afternoon (September 17th) and spent the night stranded in bushland.

The aircraft was tasked by the Queensland Police Service (QPS) at 9 o’clock this morning and the aeromedical crew carried out a thorough search for more than two hours.

The rescue helicopter then flew back to the mainland, to refuel at Hervey Bay Airport, before returning to the island just after 1pm, to continue searching.

It’s the second time QPS has requested the assistance of RACQ LifeFlight Rescue, in the search for the missing woman.

Last night, the Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Helicopter spent more than an hour searching for the hiker, before being stood down.
