The Toowoomba-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter crew has helped locate two hikers, who became lost while on a popular mountain, south-east of Toowoomba.
It’s believed the two men, who are aged in their 30s, were on their way down the mountain when they became disoriented.
Fortunately, they were able to make contact with emergency services to raise the alarm.
The rescue chopper was tasked by Queensland Police Service (QPS), just after 4:30pm (Monday, 25th April).
Flying over the area, the helicopter crew spotted the hikers, who were located in an area of rough terrain.
It was decided to winch a LifeFlight Paramedic down to the pair.
Local State Emergency Service (SES) personnel were also part of the multi-agency response, and were making their way to the hikers’ location, on foot.
The LifeFlight Paramedic led the two men down the mountain to meet with SES crews, before they all made their way to the base of the mountain.
An RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor confirmed the two men were uninjured before leaving them in the care of QPS.
The LifeFlight SGAS helicopter performed the mission, as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to assisting in providing the south west region and beyond, with community aeromedical coverage, by donating 150 flying hours each year.
