Bushwalker winched to safety after falling down a mountain gorge

The Sunshine Coast’s RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crew has winched a woman to safety, after she reportedly plummeted 25 metres down a mountain gorge, south-west of Brisbane.

It’s believed she was bushwalking with a friend at a popular mountain track, when she slipped and fell.

Her friend was forced to leave her side, and walk a significant distance away, to get phone coverage to call for help.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crew was sent to the scene just before 9:30am.

Due to the rough terrain, it was decided the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic, RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) technician would be winched down to the patient.

Local QAS paramedics and Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers were also on scene, approximately two-thirds of the way up the rocky gorge.

The woman was treated for multiple injuries, before being put into a stretcher, and hoisted into the rescue chopper.

She was flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition.
