LifeFlight winches hiker to hospital after gorge fall

The Roma-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) crew today airlifted a woman to hospital after she fell down a gorge.

It is understood the woman was hiking on her own on Thursday when she fell 15 metres.

She was able to alert emergency services through a personal location beacon on her watch.

A LifeFlight aircrew officer walked into the gorge to comfort the patient overnight and bring supplies including pain medication, food and water.

The LifeFlight helicopter was tasked at 5.07am and flew to the scene north of Roma in Central Queensland.

The critical care LifeFlight doctor and flight paramedic were winched down to the patient and treated her for lacerations and bruising.

The patient was winched back into the helicopter and airlifted to the LifeFlight Roma base.

She was then road transported to Roma Hospital by Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics.

The LifeFlight SGAS helicopter and crew performed this mission as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to providing community aeromedical coverage.
