Teenager airlifted after crashing car into a tree

The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew was tasked to airlift a teenager late yesterday afternoon (Friday, November 24) after he crashed the car he was driving into a tree.

The man was driving by himself on a dirt road in the Toowoomba region when he lost control of the car.

The rescue helicopter pilot landed the chopper in a paddock on a private property about 500 metres away from the scene.

A Queensland Police Service (QPS) officer drove the RACQ LifeFlight Critical Care Doctor and the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic to the patient.

The man was trapped in the vehicle for about one hour before a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) team was able to cut him out of the car.

The LifeFlight aeromedical team worked alongside local QAS paramedics to treat the teenager for a fractured leg and pelvic injury.

He was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, in a stable condition, for further treatment.

His mother accompanied her son in the rescue helicopter.
