LifeFlight SGAS airlifts woman injured in horse-riding incident

The Roma-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter crew has airlifted a woman to hospital, after she was involved in a horse-riding incident in the Western Downs region, on Saturday afternoon.

It’s believed the woman, who is aged in her 40s, fell from her horse after the girth broke away from her saddle.

The incident occurred while the woman was at a horse-riding competition.

The rescue chopper was called into action shortly before 12:30 this afternoon (Saturday, 15th April).

The pilot landed the aircraft near the scene of the incident.

The aeromedical crew, alongside event paramedics and local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics, treated the rider for suspected spinal injuries.

The patient was flown to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.

Tasked by Queensland Health, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter and crew performed this mission as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to assisting in providing the south west region and beyond, with community aeromedical coverage, by donating 150 flying hours each year.

With aircraft based in Roma and Toowoomba, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter service is fully funded by the four SGAS partners.
