RACQ LifeFlight Rescue searches for suspected missing swimmer

The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has searched for a swimmer, suspected missing, in a river south of Gympie.

At the request of Queensland Police Service, the rescue chopper joined other emergency services, at the Mary River, shortly after 8am on New Year’s day.

It was reported a male, aged in his twenties, had been swimming in the river with friends, after midnight.

A short time later, they noticed he had disappeared, and they alerted authorities soon after.

After almost an hour of assisting with the search, the rescue helicopter was diverted to another mission.

Other emergency services remain at the search site.
