The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has airlifted a paraglider to hospital, after an incident in the Gympie region.
The rescue chopper had just completed a mission on Fraser Island (Friday 4th September), when the crew received a call for their services at Rainbow Beach, at 2:35pm.
It’s believed the paraglider had tried to avoid other gliders who were flying in the area, when he lost altitude and landed hard on the sand.
Due to the location of the incident, the crew winched the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic down to the scene.
The aeromedical crew and local QAS paramedics treated the man, aged in his thirties, for lower back injuries.
After he was stabilised, both the patient and Flight Paramedic were winched back into the aircraft.
The man was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
