Seriously injured woman airlifted after bus collision

The Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew airlifted a woman to hospital this morning, after she was seriously injured in a collision between a bus and the car she was driving.

The aeromedical crew were tasked to the Somerset region at around 8:30am.

The pilot was able to land the chopper on the road near the scene, that was closed off by Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers.

The patient was trapped in the car and had to be freed by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) personnel, before being treated by Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics and the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor.

The woman, aged in her 40s, suffered severe head and abdominal injuries and was flown to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition.
