Seriously injured man winched after falling 30 metres down cliff face

An RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crew has winched a seriously injured man to safety and flown him to hospital, after he fell about 30 metres off a cliff’s edge, on the Sunshine Coast this morning.

It’s believed the man was working on some trees near a popular coastal lookout, when he fell several metres, landing on rocks at the bottom of the cliff.

He suffered a number of serious injuries, including to his head, chest and spine.

The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue medical team were called to the scene by road, while the Bundaberg RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was also tasked to attend, just after 10am.

The medical team worked alongside Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) personnel to reach the man, who is aged in his 20s.

Once at the bottom of the cliff, the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic worked to treat the man.

Once the rescue chopper arrived, the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue pilot hovered the aircraft above where the man had fallen, so a stretcher could be lowered down to the patient.

The patient was then secured into the stretcher, before being winched into the helicopter.

He was flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for further treatment.
