LifeFlight winches stranded truck driver in raging floodwaters

The LifeFlight special mission helicopter today rescued a truck driver caught in floodwaters in South Australia.

The LifeFlight helicopter was supporting New South Wales State Emergency Service (NSW SES) with flood-related rescues.

It was tasked at 1:55pm and flew 200 kilometres southwest of Broken Hill to Yunta in South Australia.

The crew spotted the truck trapped by rising floodwaters on the Barrier Highway.

A LifeFlight rescue crewman was winched down to the roof of the truck and the driver climbed out of the cabin and was secured into a rescue strop.

Both the rescue crewman and truck driver were winched back into the aircraft.

The helicopter landed a few hundred metres away from the floodwaters where South Australia Police (SAPOL) officers were waiting to assist the uninjured driver.
