LifeFlight SGAS airlifts man after sheep incident

The Roma-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter crew yesterday airlifted a man after he crashed his motorcycle when it collided with a sheep.

The LifeFlight crew flew to a private property in St George in the Balonne Shire at 5.28pm and landed in a field.

The LifeFlight critical care doctor and flight paramedic and local QAS paramedics worked in low light conditions with head torches to treat the man in his 30s with head injuries.

He was airlifted to the LifeFlight Roma base and then transported by ambulance to the Roma Hospital in a stable condition.

It was the second time in two days that the SGAS chopper had been tasked for an animal-related medical emergency.

On Wednesday a woman was airlifted after an incident with a bull on a private property.

Tasked by Queensland Ambulance Service, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter and crew performed this mission as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to providing community aeromedical coverage.
