The Toowoomba-based LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Service (SGAS) helicopter crew has airlifted a critically injured teenager to hospital, after the car he was driving crashed into a tree.
The injured male had been driving along a country road, in the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales when the incident occurred.
The impact caused the driver to be trapped inside the vehicle, until emergency services arrived on scene and were able to free him.
The rescue chopper was called to the scene, just after 9am today (Saturday, 4th March), where the pilot was able to land the helicopter on the road, which had been closed by NSW Police.
The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and LifeFlight Paramedic worked alongside NSW Ambulance paramedics to treat the teen, who had suffered traumatic injuries.
The patient was airlifted to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
Tasked by Queensland Health, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter and crew performed this mission as part of the SGAS partners’ commitment to assisting in providing the south west region and beyond, with community aeromedical coverage, by donating 150 flying hours each year.
With aircraft based in Roma and Toowoomba, the LifeFlight SGAS helicopter service is fully funded by the four SGAS partners.
