Seriously injured driver airlifted after head-on collision with a truck

RACQ LifeFlight Rescue has flown a man to hospital, after he was involved in a head-on crash with a truck, in the Bundaberg region.

It’s believed the man, who is aged in his 30s, was the driver and only occupant of the car which collided with the heavy vehicle on a major road this morning.

Both the Bundaberg and Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopters were tasked to the scene around 9:30am (Sat 22nd Jan).

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter pilots each landed their choppers on a section of highway, that had been closed by the Queensland Police Service (QPS).

Local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics, Queensland Fire & Emergency Service (QFES) personnel and QPS officers were already on scene when the rescue helicopter arrived.

The aeromedical teams, alongside local QAS paramedics, assessed the drivers from the vehicles involved in the crash.

The car driver had suffered significant leg and pelvic injuries and it was decided that he required further treatment at Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

He in a serious but stable condition when he was airlifted by the Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter.
