The Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has assisted the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) in the ongoing search for a plane, with two people on board, after a distress call was received, yesterday afternoon.
It’s believed the pair departed in the aircraft from Caloundra at around 3.30pm and headed towards Moreton Island, for a scenic flight, with the intention of returning to Caloundra.
The Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was first sent to join the search of the suspected crash area, at 4:45am this morning.
The chopper, searched for approximately 6 hours, returning to the mainland once to refuel.
They were stood down by authorities co-ordinating the search and returned to base at 11:15am.
