Tourist airlifted after breaking her arm in surf

The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight helicopter crew airlifted a woman from K’gari this morning after she tumbled in the surf and broke her arm.

It is believed the woman, aged in her 40s, was on holidays with her family and swimming when she was overpowered by a wave.

Her mother, a retired doctor, was camping with her daughter and provided support until the LifeFlight aeromedical team arrived.

The low tide allowed the pilot to land the chopper on wet sand adjacent to the western beach-side camping ground.

The family had placed their canoes on the beach so the LifeFlight rescue team could easily find them.

The patient was given pain relief before she was flown to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition.

It is the second time the Bundy crew had attended the island to airlift a patient in two days. Yesterday a man was airlifted after being bitten by a snake.

The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter and crew service the Wide Bay-Burnett region and beyond.
