An RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has winched a seriously injured woman to safety, after she fell approximately 10 metres off a cliff, west of Maryborough.
It’s believed the hiker, who is aged in her 30s, was climbing a popular mountain with a friend, when she slipped and fell.
She sustained serious back injuries.
The Bundaberg-based rescue helicopter was called to the scene just after 2pm (Saturday, 6th November).
Due to the rugged terrain, it was decided the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue pilot would hover above the scene, in order for the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) flight paramedic to be winched down to treat the patient.
The QAS flight paramedic stabilised the woman, and prepared her to be hoisted up to the helicopter on a stretcher.
Before being winched, the patient was carried to a more accessible location further down the mountain, with the help of local Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) personnel and Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers.
The woman was flown to the Bundaberg Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
