Seriously injured child winched from mountain after 20 metre fall

The Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has performed a winch rescue of a child, who plunged between 20 and 30 metres down a rocky embankment on a mountain, in the Toowoomba region.

The rescue chopper was called into action at 4:45pm (Sunday 26th June) after reports a young boy had fallen from near the top of Tabletop Mountain.

Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) officers climbed up the mountain to assist the injured primary school aged child.

At last light, the crew of the rescue chopper winched the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and QAS Flight Paramedic down to the scene.

The aeromedical team along with local QAS paramedics treated the boy for head and spinal injuries.

After being stabilised, the patient was stretcher winched along with the Critical Care Doctor into the aircraft, before being airlifted to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in a serious condition.
